The Hare and the Lion

November 6, 2025

In the misty forests of Tibet, where mountains touch the clouds and rivers sing through the valleys, there once lived a mighty lion who ruled all creatures with fear. Each day he hunted endlessly, his roar shaking the very hills, until the animals, desperate to survive, made a grim bargain to send one of their own to him each morning. So the forest grew silent with sorrow, until at last, the turn came for a small, clever hare. Unlike the others, the hare did not despair. He set out slowly, thinking deeply, and when he reached the lion’s den, he bowed and spoke, “O King, forgive my delay. I was stopped by another lion who claims to be ruler here.” The lion’s pride flared like fire. “Show me this imposter!” he roared. The hare led him to a deep well, where the lion saw his own reflection and mistook it for a rival. With a furious leap, he plunged in and drowned, conquered by his own anger. The hare returned to the forest, and the creatures rejoiced, free at last. From that day on, they remembered that wisdom, not strength, is the truest power beneath heaven.
