The Clever Rabbit and the Lion – An Indian Folktale About Strategy

In an Indian forest, a mighty lion began to hunt recklessly, threatening all animals. To survive, the animals offered one animal per day as sacrifice.

One day, it was the turn of a small rabbit. He took his time getting to the lion’s den. Angry, the lion demanded an explanation.

The rabbit said, “Another lion tried to eat me on the way. He said he was the true king.”

The lion, furious, demanded to be taken to the imposter. The rabbit led him to a deep well and pointed at the reflection inside. The lion, thinking it was the other lion, jumped in and drowned.

The animals rejoiced, and the clever rabbit became a legend.

Moral: Wit can defeat strength when used wisely.
